Dear Lord, this past year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick
Swayze, my favorite actress, Farah Fawcett, My favorite musician, Michael
Jackson and my favorite sales man, Billy Mayes.
I just wanted to let you know that my favorite president is Obama....
And my favorite congressman is Pelosi...... Amen

This is beyond offensive. Is it really acceptable to pray for the death of another person, just because you disagree with his or her political opinions? I understand that this is meant as a joke, but should Christians even joke about asking God to harm another human being?
Tonight the health care bill was passed. I can't say whether it will actually improve the lives of Americans, but I am appalled that the political discourse has devolved into joking about the death of our President.

Wow, that is a harsh thing to hear from a person who considers herself a Christian.
ReplyDeleteWhen did disagreeing with somebody become grounds for praying that they die?
Urgh.
Yeah, I shouldn't let this stuff get to me, but it does!
ReplyDeleteIt's fine to disagree with a politician, but I wish people would stick to arguing about the issues instead of these petty and pointless personal attacks.
And it always bothers me when people drag God into politics--God is not a member of ANY political party!
I'm so glad that I'm not the only homeschool mom that feels this way.
ReplyDeleteYou should check out Fortunately for You's latest product based on "Arguing with Idiots" by Glenn Beck. Even if I believed everything that is written in the book I wouldn't want to promote calling people "idiots" to my children, but I guess that's just me! Name calling seems to be very much accepted now and I suspect this is why there is so much bullying in our schools and rudeness on our streets and in life in general.
Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteWe've been away for a while, but we're home now and I need to update my abandoned blog!
I'll have to take a look at "Arguing with Idiots," although it will probably just make me mad. If you have already decided that the person you're talking to is an "idiot" why waste time arguing? A better philosophy might be "Exchanging and Respecting Different Opinions," but that doesn't sound as catchy, does it?
